Viewing Jobs on the Map

Trade2Base's map view gives you a live, visual picture of every job across your territory. See where work is clustered, spot unassigned jobs at a glance, drag them straight onto an engineer, and track your team in real time — all without leaving the Jobs screen.

Switching to Map View

Open Jobs from the main navigation. In the top-right corner of the jobs screen you'll see two layout icons — a list icon and a map icon. Click the map icon (or press M) to switch to map view. Your last-used view is remembered, so the map will open automatically next time you visit Jobs.

You can toggle back to the list at any time without losing any filters you've set — filters carry across both views.

What You See on the Map

Each job appears as a colour-coded pin:

  • Grey pins — unscheduled jobs with no engineer assigned yet.
  • Colour-coded pins — scheduled jobs, one colour per engineer. The legend on the right panel shows which colour belongs to which engineer.
  • Pulsing ring — a job scheduled for today that has not yet been started.

Use the Today / This Week toggle at the top of the map to narrow pins to just today's schedule or the full working week. This week view is especially useful for territory planning and spotting travel inefficiencies.

Viewing Job Details from a Pin

Click any pin to open a compact job card alongside the map. The card shows:

  • Customer name and address
  • Job type and current status
  • Assigned engineer (if any) and scheduled time
  • A quick-link to open the full job record

From the job card you can change the status, reassign the engineer, or open the full job detail — all without navigating away from the map.

Drag-Assigning Jobs from the List to the Map

On wider screens the map view shows a panel of unassigned jobs on the left. To assign a job:

  1. Find the job in the left panel — use the search bar at the top to filter by customer or address.
  2. Drag the job card from the panel onto the map.
  3. Drop it onto the engineer's colour dot (their current GPS location indicator) or onto their name in the engineer legend on the right.
  4. A scheduling dialogue will appear so you can confirm the date and time before saving.

This is the fastest way to fill gaps in an engineer's day — you can see exactly where they are and where the job is before committing.

Engineer GPS Locations

When engineers have the Trade2Base mobile app open, their live GPS location is shown as a circular avatar on the map. The location updates every 60 seconds while the app is in use.

Engineers must have location sharing enabled in the app (Settings → Location Sharing → Allow). They can pause sharing at any time — a paused indicator will appear instead of their live position.

GPS tracking is only active while the app is foregrounded or the engineer has a job marked as “In Progress”. It is not a continuous background tracker.

Filtering the Map

Use the filter bar above the map to narrow what's shown:

  • By status — show only Unscheduled, Scheduled, In Progress, or Completed jobs.
  • By engineer — tick or untick engineers to show or hide their jobs and GPS dot.
  • By job type — useful when you want to see all boiler services or all new installations in an area.

Filters stack, so you can show only unscheduled electrical jobs, for example, to find work to fill a specific engineer's route.

Using the Map for Territory Planning

Switch to the This Week view and filter by engineer to see each person's full workload plotted geographically. Look for:

  • Engineers criss-crossing each other's patches — swap jobs to cut travel time.
  • Dense job clusters not being served by the nearest engineer.
  • Postcodes with repeat unscheduled jobs — a sign of growing demand in that area.

You can export a screenshot of the map view using your browser's screenshot tool for offline planning or to share with your operations manager.
