Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication
Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second layer of security to your Trade2Base account. Even if someone gets hold of your password, they still can't log in without the second factor. This guide walks you through enabling 2FA, choosing your method, managing backup codes, and troubleshooting common problems.
Enabling Two-Factor Authentication
To turn on 2FA, go to Settings → Security → Two-Factor Authentication and click Enable 2FA. You'll be prompted to choose your preferred second-factor method before setup begins.
- Open Settings from the left-hand navigation.
- Select the Security tab.
- Click Enable Two-Factor Authentication.
- Choose either Authenticator App or SMS.
- Follow the on-screen steps to complete setup.
Using an Authenticator App (Recommended)
An authenticator app generates a fresh six-digit code every 30 seconds — it works even when you have no phone signal. We support any TOTP-compatible app, including Google Authenticator and Authy.
Tip: Authy lets you back up your codes to the cloud, making it easier to move to a new phone without losing access.
Scanning the QR code
- Open your authenticator app and tap the + or Add account button.
- Choose Scan a QR code.
- Point your phone camera at the QR code shown on the Trade2Base setup screen.
- Your account will appear in the app and immediately begin generating codes.
- Enter the current six-digit code into the Verify code field on Trade2Base and click Confirm.
If your camera can't scan the QR code, tap Enter code manually in your app and type in the setup key shown below the QR code.
Using SMS Verification
If you prefer, Trade2Base can send a one-time code to your mobile number each time you log in. Select SMS during setup, enter your UK mobile number (including the +44 country code), and click Send test code. Enter the code you receive to confirm your number is correct.
Note that SMS codes can be delayed during periods of high network traffic. If you don't receive a code within two minutes, tap Resend code.
Backup Codes
After enabling 2FA, Trade2Base generates ten single-use backup codes. These let you log in if you lose access to your phone or authenticator app. Each code can only be used once — after use, it is permanently consumed.
How to store your backup codes safely
- Download and save them to an encrypted password manager such as 1Password or Bitwarden.
- Print a copy and keep it in a secure physical location.
- Do not store them in the same place as your password.
To generate a fresh set, go to Settings → Security → Backup Codes and click Regenerate codes. Your old codes will immediately become invalid, so save the new ones straight away.
If you've lost both your second factor and your backup codes, contact our support team at support@trade2base.com to begin an identity-verified account recovery process.
Requiring 2FA for Your Whole Team
Account admins can make 2FA mandatory for every team member. Go to Settings → Security → Team Security and toggle Require 2FA for all users. Team members will be prompted to set up 2FA the next time they log in and won't be able to access Trade2Base until they complete setup.
Admins can see which team members have 2FA enabled on the Settings → Team page. A shield icon next to a member's name indicates their 2FA is active.
Disabling Two-Factor Authentication
You can turn off 2FA at any time from Settings → Security → Two-Factor Authentication. Click Disable 2FA and confirm with your current password and a valid 2FA code. If your admin has made 2FA mandatory for your account, you will not see the option to disable it — ask your admin to change the policy first.
Troubleshooting
My code is being rejected as wrong
Authenticator apps rely on your phone's clock being accurate. Open your phone's date and time settings and enable Set time automatically. Then generate a fresh code and try again.
I've got a new phone
If you still have access to your old phone, open the authenticator app there and use one of its codes to log in, then set up 2FA again on your new device. If you no longer have your old phone, use one of your backup codes. If you have neither, contact our support team.
SMS codes aren't arriving
Check your number includes the correct country code, ensure you have mobile signal, and wait up to two minutes before requesting a resend. UK landline numbers cannot receive SMS codes.
