Importing customers from a spreadsheet

Bring your existing customer list into Trade2Base in minutes using a simple CSV upload — no technical knowledge required.

How to import customers

  1. 1Go to Customers > Import in the Trade2Base dashboard and download the CSV template.
  2. 2Fill in the template with your customer data — required fields are First Name, Last Name, and at least one of Email or Phone. Optional fields include Address, Postcode, Company Name and any custom fields you have set up.
  3. 3Save the completed CSV and drag it into the upload area on the Import page, or click “Choose file” to select it.
  4. 4Trade2Base will validate your data and show a preview with any errors highlighted — fix errors in the CSV and re-upload, or skip invalid rows.
  5. 5Click “Import” to complete the import. Customers appear in your Customers list immediately and can be assigned to jobs straight away.
Duplicate detection

Trade2Base checks for duplicate email addresses during import. If a customer with the same email already exists, the import will skip that row rather than create a duplicate — export your existing customers first to cross-check before importing.

Frequently asked questions

How many customers can I import at once?

You can import up to 5,000 customers per file. For larger lists, split your CSV into multiple files and import each one separately. There is no limit on the total number of customers in your account.

Can I import job history alongside customers?

The customer import is for contact data only. Historical jobs cannot be imported via CSV, but you can add them manually on each customer record or contact support about a data migration for large volumes of historical data.

What happens to existing customers with the same phone number?

Duplicate detection is based on email address only, not phone number. Rows with a matching phone number but a different email will be imported as new customers. Use the Merge Customers feature after import to consolidate any duplicates found by phone.

Can I undo a customer import?

Imports cannot be automatically reversed, but you can filter your customer list by the import date and select all imported records to delete them in bulk. Contact support within 24 hours of an import if you need assistance with a large rollback.
