Requesting a Deposit on a Quote

Trade2Base lets you require a deposit when sending a quote. The customer sees a “Pay deposit” button in the customer portal and can pay instantly via Stripe — and the remaining balance is tracked automatically on the final invoice.

How to request a deposit on a quote

1
Open a quote in Draft status → scroll to the Payment section

Open the quote you want to send. Scroll down to the Payment section at the bottom of the quote editor.

2
Toggle "Require deposit" on and set the deposit amount

Switch "Require deposit" on. Enter either a fixed amount (e.g. £250) or a percentage of the quote total (e.g. 25%). The deposit amount is shown clearly on the quote PDF and in the customer portal.

3
The quote PDF and customer portal show the deposit amount and a "Pay deposit" button

When the quote is sent, the customer sees the total price, the deposit required, and a button to pay the deposit securely via Stripe. They do not need a Trade2Base account to pay.

4
When the customer pays the deposit, you receive an instant notification

As soon as the deposit is paid, you get an in-app and email notification. The payment is logged against the job automatically — no manual entry needed.

5
The remaining balance due appears automatically on the final invoice

When you raise the final invoice for the job, Trade2Base deducts the deposit already paid and shows the remaining balance due. The customer can see their payment history in the customer portal.

Recommended practice: Requiring deposits on jobs over £500 is strongly recommended — it confirms customer commitment, covers material costs upfront and reduces no-shows.
