Sending a Stripe Payment Link

Trade2Base connects with Stripe to let your customers pay invoices by card online — no card reader needed. You generate a payment link from the invoice, share it with the customer, and Trade2Base automatically marks the invoice as paid when the money lands.

Prerequisite: connect Stripe first

You need to connect your Stripe account before you can generate payment links. Head to Connecting Stripe and follow the steps there before continuing with this guide.

Generating a payment link from an invoice

1
Open the invoice

Go to Invoices in the sidebar and click on the invoice you want the customer to pay. The invoice detail page opens.

2
Click "Generate Stripe Link"

Find the "Generate Stripe Link" button near the top of the invoice page. Trade2Base calls Stripe to create a secure, one-time payment page for this exact invoice amount.

3
Copy or send the link

The link appears on screen. You can copy it and paste it into a WhatsApp message or email, or click "Send via email" to have Trade2Base email it to the customer automatically.

4
Customer pays by card

The customer opens the link and lands on a Stripe-hosted payment page. They enter their card details and pay. Stripe handles all the security — PCI compliance, 3D Secure, and fraud checks.

5
Payment confirmed in Trade2Base

Within seconds of payment, Trade2Base receives confirmation from Stripe and automatically marks the invoice as Paid. You'll see the status change on the invoice and receive a notification.

Stripe fees

Stripe charges a transaction fee for each card payment. For UK cards the standard rate is 1.4% + 20p per transaction. For non-UK cards (European cards, for example) the rate is typically 2.9% + 30p. Stripe deducts these fees from the payout to your bank account — they are not added on top of the invoice amount the customer sees.

Passing fees to the customer

Some businesses add a small “card payment surcharge” line item to invoices to cover the Stripe fee. If you do this, make sure it is clearly labelled and complies with your local consumer payment surcharge regulations.

Payouts to your bank

Stripe pays out collected funds to your connected bank account on the schedule you set in your Stripe dashboard — typically daily or weekly with a two-day delay. You can check your payout schedule and bank account details directly in Stripe.

Troubleshooting payment issues

Invoice not marked paid automatically?

Check your Stripe webhook settings. Trade2Base uses webhooks to receive payment notifications. If the webhook is missing or misconfigured, open Settings → Integrations → Stripe and click Resync webhook.

Link expired?

Payment links do not expire unless the invoice is cancelled. If the customer says the link is not working, generate a fresh one from the invoice page.
