Creating a job template
Job templates save you time when creating recurring job types — boiler services, electrical inspections, bathroom installations. A template pre-populates the job title, description, checklist items, duration and assigned engineer so you can create a new job in seconds.
How to create a job template
In the main navigation, open Settings and select Job Templates. Click the New template button in the top right corner.
Give your template a clear, descriptive name that engineers will recognise in the job creation flow. For example: "Annual Boiler Service" or "EICR Electrical Inspection".
Enter the default job description, estimated duration, job category, and default engineer (optional). These fields can all be overridden when creating an individual job from the template.
Click Add checklist item to build out the standard task list for this job type. These checklist items appear on every job created from this template, ensuring engineers follow the same process each time.
Click Save template. The template is now available in the job creation flow under Use template. Select it to instantly populate a new job with all the default details.
Templates save the job structure, not the customer or address. Each new job created from a template still requires a customer to be selected.
Frequently asked questions
Yes. You can create as many templates as you need. For example, you might have separate boiler service templates for different boiler brands, each with slightly different checklists and durations.
Yes. Editing a template only affects jobs created from it in the future. Existing jobs that were created from the template are not updated and retain their original details.
Only users with the Admin or Manager role can create and edit job templates by default. You can grant template access to other roles in Settings > Roles > [Role name] > Permissions.
Templates are currently scoped to a single Trade2Base account. If you manage multiple accounts, templates need to be created separately in each. Cross-account template sharing is on the product roadmap.
