Collect Reviews Through the Customer Portal
Google reviews are one of the most powerful tools for winning new trade work. Trade2Base makes it easy to ask for them at exactly the right moment — when the job is done and the customer is satisfied — through a gentle, branded prompt in the customer portal.
How the review prompt works
When a job is marked as Complete in Trade2Base, the customer receives access to a job summary page in their customer portal. At the bottom of this page, Trade2Base displays a review prompt. The prompt shows your business name, a short message, and a button that links directly to your Google Business Profile review page.
Because the customer is already in the portal viewing their completed job — often just after receiving their invoice — they are in the ideal frame of mind to leave a positive review. The one-tap link takes them straight to the Google review form with no searching required.
You must connect your Google Business Profile before the review prompt appears. See the Connect Google Business Profile article for setup steps.
Setting the review request timing
Go to Settings → Portal → Review request. Here you can control when the review prompt appears relative to job completion:
The prompt appears as soon as the job is marked complete. Best for businesses where the customer pays on-site and the relationship is fresh.
The prompt appears once the invoice is marked as paid. This ensures the customer has completed the full transaction before being asked for a review.
Set a delay of 1, 2, 3, 5, or 7 days. Useful if you want to give the customer time to experience the work (for example, a boiler installation) before asking for feedback.
Customising the review message
The default review message reads: “We'd love to hear how we did. Leaving us a quick Google review makes a huge difference to our business.” You can replace this with your own wording in Settings → Portal → Review message.
Keep the message short, warm, and personal. You can use the merge tag {{customer_first_name}} to address the customer by name, and {{engineer_first_name}} to mention the engineer who completed the job. A personalised message typically converts significantly better than a generic one.
“Hi {{customer_first_name}}, thanks for having {{engineer_first_name}} out today. If you're happy with the work, a quick Google review means the world to a small business like ours — it only takes 30 seconds!”
Email review request (optional)
In addition to the in-portal prompt, you can enable a follow-up email that sends the review request directly to the customer's inbox. This is useful for customers who view their invoice via email rather than visiting the portal directly.
Toggle Send review request email on in the same settings page. The email uses the same message and timing as the portal prompt, so you only need to configure the copy once. Both the email and portal prompt include the same direct link to your Google review page.
If you already use the Review Automation feature to send review requests, disable the portal review prompt to avoid sending the same customer two separate review requests.
Tracking review conversion in analytics
Go to Reports → Reviews to see your review performance over time. The dashboard shows the number of review prompts sent, the number of times customers clicked the Google review link, and your conversion rate (clicks as a percentage of prompts). You can filter by date range and compare month-on-month.
Trade2Base also tracks your total Google review count and average star rating, pulling data from your connected Google Business Profile so you can see the impact of your review requests without leaving Trade2Base.
Trade businesses using Trade2Base typically see a review click-through rate of 25–40%. If yours is below 20%, try personalising the message with merge tags or adjusting the timing to after invoice payment.
Trade2Base asks for reviews at exactly the right moment, every time.
